The Art of Living
Here we are in the third quarter of 2021, and we’ve already accomplished so much and made some pretty incredible memories together. To say this year is flying by would be an understatement. Let’s take a look at where we’ve been and where we’re headed as we round the corner on the second half of the year. With over 23,000 Herbalife Nutrition Independent Distributors registered from a total of 49 countries and numerous watch parties around the world, the 2021 Herbalife Nutrition Extravaganza virtual experience in July was one for the books. More than 20 speakers and special guests brought us powerful keynote speeches, valuable trainings, and amazing performances. We got our sweat on with a Fit Hour hosted by Vice President of Sports Performance and Fitness Education Samantha Clayton, OLY, ISSA-CPT, and celebrated our rising stars during a record-breaking Recognition Night ceremony, but more importantly, we raised over $314,000 for the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation to help children in need. I think it’s safe to say we don’t call it our biggest event of the year for nothing. In this second half of the year you can look forward to even more! Continuing with our local monthly Success Training Seminars, and in October we’re back in action together with our Leadership Development Weekend experiences. So set your sights on those and plan to join us, whether it be virtually or in person. Your wellness is our business, and we want you to live your best life at every age, so in honor of September being Healthy Aging Month, we’re sharing our top tips to help you do just that. It’s never too early or too late to get started on a path toward healthy aging, so check out this timeless article for ways to optimize your healthy, active lifestyle. And remember, age is just a number. Did you know September is also National Shake Month? Talk about our time to shine! I plan to celebrate by making my personal favorite, Formula 1 French Vanilla. It’s a perfect base for adding fresh fruit, but I love it all on its own – it’s delicious! I can’t help but take a moment and think about back when Herbalife Nutrition Founder and First Distributor Mark Hughes (1956–2000) sold our now world-renowned shakes from the trunk of his car. He always had a much bigger vision in mind, though, and I’m certain he would be proud of everything this company and this community have accomplished. Let’s all raise our shakes and cheers to that! Warm regards, Ibi Montesino

Living Our Best Lives
With gratitude, Ibi.
For those of us who do not struggle to gain access to proper nutrition, it’s hard to imagine a world in which 2 billion people are facing hunger, but the truth is, this number is on the rise. At Herbalife Nutrition, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products because we know that one of the greatest gifts we can give is good nutrition, especially to those who so desperately need it. That is why we’re committed to doing our part to cut this number to zero – zero empty plates, zero food insecurity, and zero hunger.
Last year we launched Nutrition for Zero Hunger, our global corporate social responsibility initiative that is centered around eliminating global hunger and malnutrition. Since then, we have partnered with several leading organizations, including World Food Program USA, Feed the Children, The Hunger Project and more, to

ARLENE
After college, I moved to upstate New York for my career as a social worker. I had that career for about 10 years before becoming a teacher. I’m proud to say I spent 30 years in the classroom as a special education teacher. At the age of 45, I found myself as a single parent, which prompted me to make some big changes in my life, such as moving to Maryland where my daughter was attending college. Even though I was in a career that I knew I was called to do – and I was passionate about – I still worried about providing for my and my family’s future. Of course, I had my career, but I also worked other part-time jobs just to make ends meet and keep my daughter in college. Parents will do whatever it takes to make sure their kids are set, and that’s what I was doing at that time. I didn’t know what the outcome would be, I just knew I had to remain faithful and keep working.
At the end of my life, I want to know that I’ve absolutely maxed out everything I could possibly do while on this earth.
Can you walk us through your story and how you got to where you are today?
I struggled with my weight off and on my whole life. A cycle of gaining weight then losing weight then gaining it again continued into adulthood. Eventually, I found myself needing to lose weight once more. It was then that I reached out to my niece, who I knew had just started her Herbalife Nutrition business. I didn’t know much about it, but I trusted that she could help me. My niece set me up on a nutrition and supplement regimen, which really kick-started my weight-loss journey. From the days of seeing 220 pounds on the scale, I’m proud to be where I am today, having lost over 70 pounds.* When I lost the weight, people around me definitely noticed the difference and began asking me how I did it. For a while, I would refer everyone to my niece until one day she sparked my interest by asking, “Why don’t you do this business with me?” From there, I attended my first Success Training Seminar and it all clicked for me. I started small, but over time, the vision grew and I knew I wanted to help as many people as I could. Eventually, my niece’s husband found a vacant space in their hometown in Connecticut and called to invite me to help them open and run a Nutrition Club there. I pretty much hung up the phone and drove straight there. In August 2018, we opened Happy’s Nutrition, where the motto is, “Serving you makes me happy.” I always say, “I don’t work; I serve,” so that’s where that comes from. It’s a place where I feel I can pour into people’s lives and truly make an impact in the community.
How did you get started with Herbalife Nutrition?
paycheck to paycheck for a long time, but I’ve kept my faith and gained a new understanding of my own self-worth.
I lived
I lived paycheck to paycheck for a long time, but I’ve kept my faith and gained a new understanding of my own self-worth. I now know that I bring value to the marketplace, and I have the capacity to do so much more than I ever gave myself credit for. I’ve learned that our stories aren’t our own; they’re meant to be shared, so I hope my testimony can help someone else who is perhaps struggling with a limiting mindset.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way and how have they shaped you into who you are today?
“When you feel better, you show up better.”
I believe,
I’m most proud of my clients’ results and I’m honored that they trust me to help them on their journeys. I believe, “When you feel better, you show up better,” so I take my role in helping people very seriously. I’m emotionally attached to this mission to help others; it’s just who I am, so I will live out the rest of my days doing just that.
Tell us about your Herbalife Nutrition business. What are you most proud of as a Distributor and what sets you apart from others?
“Serving you makes me happy.” I always say, “I don’t work; I serve.”
Our motto is,
I’m claiming it now that I will one day be a diamond on my niece’s pin. This legacy is not where it’s meant to be just yet, and the excitement of seeing it through is what gets me out of bed every morning. At 65 years young, I’m game for anything and would love to break into new markets. I want my legacy to reach as big and as broad as possible in hopes that countless others are positively impacted.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future?
I want people to know that they have the capacity to do more, no matter how old they are. Anything is possible, at any stage and at any age. It’s never too late to change direction. I want to be an example for others: an example of living life to the fullest, paying it forward, and taking care of yourself. I’m grateful to my family, especially my children and my niece and her husband for being there for me every step of the way. I’ve stood with them, I’ve stood for them, and at times, it felt like I was standing on them as I reached for new heights. It’s because of them that I do what I do. I want them to see that hard work and willingness to help others will take you far. I started over at 45, so I feel I have to accomplish more in a shorter period of time. At the end of my life, I want to know that I’ve absolutely maxed out everything I could possibly do while on this earth.
What’s your purpose or personal mission?
is not where it’s meant to be just yet, and the excitement of seeing it through is what gets me out of bed every morning.
This legacy
Atypical achievements shown came from hard work, skill and dedication. Most people work part-time and typically earn $201 in a month in their 1st year, before expenses. For more, see Herbalife.com/SAGC. People who replace two meals a day with Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 as part of a healthy lifestyle (such as lowering caloric intake, eating a healthy, balanced diet or engaging in regular physical activity), can generally expect to lose around half a pound to 1 pound per week.

like to do things halfway, so I knew that if I committed to it, I was going all in.
(AKA “Auntie”)
We all know the story of Ponce de León, who allegedly set sail in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth. While he may not have found the mythical fountain, that fantasy of eternal youth has never really gone away. According to a report by the World Health Organization, there were an estimated 900 million people in the world who were over the age of 60 in 2015. That number is projected to reach 2 billion by the year 2050. That’s roughly one in five people on the planet. We’re often told, “you’re as young as you feel,” or that “age is just a number,” but what is aging? According to scientists, aging is the accumulation of changes in an organism with the passage of time. It’s a multidimensional process of physical, psychological and social changes.
The human heart is the engine that powers your body. Although it is relatively small, roughly the size of your fist, it is the strongest muscle in your body. It’s responsible for keeping you alive every minute of the day. Show your appreciation for the job it does by taking steps to keep your heart healthy as you age.
Get to the Heart of the Matter
Age is a dominant risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Make every effort to visit your doctor for health checks on a regular basis.
Understand your heart risk
We’re looking at you, smokers. Quitting this unhealthy habit will be more beneficial for your health than you think. The risk to your heart health decreases significantly after you stop.
Cut out unhealthy habits
It’s Never Too Early to Grow Old Gracefully
The ideal calorie consumption should comprise 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% healthy fats along with 25 grams of fiber. And don’t forget about hydration! Aim for eight glasses of water per day.
Follow a heart-healthy diet
Even moderate exercise helps our blood vessels relax and widen, allowing blood to flow more efficiently and nourish our heart. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day, even if it’s just a few short walks around the neighborhood.
Make a point of taking some time out to relax and engage in some activities that you enjoy. People with lower stress levels are more likely to exercise and eat well, both of which are important for maintaining a healthy heart.
Try not to stress too much
Get that pulse rate up
As a person ages, changes occur in joint mobility that can affect overall health and function. When we become less active, our muscles tighten, our flexibility diminishes, and our range of motion decreases. If a muscle or joint is stretched or strained beyond its capacity, that’s when injuries tend to occur. Mobility training exercises, such as foam rolling, mobility drills and stretching, can have huge benefits. As we improve our joint mobility, we also improve our sense of well-being. Daily physical activity combined with a healthy balanced diet can support the health of your muscles, bones and joints, and keep you moving along at any age.
As Ponce de Leon learned, there’s no magical fountain of youth to keep us from aging. But with good nutrition and regular healthy habits, you can start setting a course today that will help you enjoy a healthier and happier life in your golden years.
The process of aging starts relatively early in life, so it’s important to start forming good habits now. Without exercise, our muscles lose mass, strength, and their connection with important nerves as we age. Incorporating strength training into your fitness routine is crucial to supporting muscle growth.
Nutrition can also play a huge part in healthy aging. Your nutritional playbook should include: • Omega-3 fatty acids from fish, nuts and seeds • 7 servings of fruits and vegetables • 28 grams of fiber per day • 30% of your daily calories should consist of protein from lean meat, soy, poultry, fish, dairy and plants • A daily regimen of multivitamins, calcium and Vitamin D supplements
Healthy aging is essential, whether you want to make the most out of enjoying your golden years or trying to create the habit of caring for your brain from a young age. There are three natural stages of brain aging:
Once cognitive function becomes severe enough to cause dementia, it’s difficult impossible to recover. That’s why a focus on early intervention and protecting a healthy brain, instead of attempting an extensive repair, is so vital. Remember, there can be many reasons for cognitive decline. If you have concerns, you should talk to your doctor.
Get a Move On
It’s Not About How Old You Are, It’s About How You Are Old
Aging affects us all differently. Retired business executive Gerry Forman competed in the Herbalife24 Triathlon Los Angeles and 5K at the age of 80, finishing ahead of many people half his age. A 73-year-old woman named Tamae Watanabe climbed to the top of Mount Everest. And the Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down any time soon. Since no one has admitted to discovering that magical fountain of youth, what steps can we take toward staying as healthy and happy as possible as we age?
You should avoid the following: • Omega-6 fatty acids from certain vegetable oils • Refined sugars in soft drinks, pastries and sweets It’s not possible to reverse aging, but a healthy, active lifestyle can certainly help you age in a healthier way. Remember, it’s never too early or too late to get started on a path toward healthy aging.

David: We were invited to an Herbalife Nutrition Opportunity Meeting (HOM), but I did not go with the intention of starting a business. I went because I liked to work out; I was in the Mexican army for more than four years, so I always had the habit of exercising. After the HOM, we started our Distributorship. I told Laura to sign it without knowing the real potential of the business and everything that would come after that. Laura: I think that you don’t realize the actual potential of the business until later. This business allows you to become the guiding light for a lot of people and families, the same way our Sponsors were for us when we were looking for new opportunities. We were able to transform our lives, but also the lives of our families and many others. That is why I believe our mission is very clear: Herbalife Nutrition is part of our lives. It is part of our mission. Now, we can say that we are “proud Herbalife Nutrition Independent Distributors,” as Mark Hughes used to say.
People who replace two meals a day with Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 as part of a healthy lifestyle (such as lowering caloric intake, eating a healthy, balanced diet or engaging in regular physical activity), can generally expect to lose around half a pound to 1 pound per week. Income depicted is unique to the individual and is not typical. Achievements require skill & consistent work. For typical earnings, see Statement of Average Gross Compensation at HerbalifeNutrition.com/SAGC.
Laura: When we started, we had two children – a two-year old boy and our baby girl who had just been born. Shortly before starting the business, our baby girl went through heart surgery and she needed additional health care. I was hopeful that everything was going to be OK, but after starting our Herbalife Nutrition Independent Distributorship, she needed two more surgeries. We had the business but at the same time, we also had a responsibility as parents to provide the care our daughter needed. We ended up saying yes to the Herbalife Nutrition business opportunity because our daughter needed our time and care, and the business gave us the freedom to be there for her. Shortly after, our second baby girl was born and now we are parents of two girls and a boy.
What were your lives like before you found Herbalife Nutrition?

I WANTED

Herbalife Nutrition
if there was only one or two people, we gave it 100%.
No Matter
Laura M. and David D.
Every day is an opportunity to help someone.
David: When we moved to Kentucky, we dedicated ourselves to Fitness Camps. Laura was in charge of dance classes, and I was in charge of cardio exercises. From a very early stage, we were passionate about what we did. No matter if there was only one or two people, we gave it 100%. As a result of that, people came back with someone else. I remember a time when Laura and I were leading a class with just one young man: Laura was dancing and I was doing cardio and the young man asked us if it was convenient for us to work out only with him. I said, “Yes, because if you get results, you will bring more people.” After that month, we had more than 100 people in our Nutrition Club.
Can you describe those early days of your business?
No MATTER
David: What makes us proud is to see the impact we’ve had in other people’s lives, especially in those who believed in us from the beginning when we had nothing. Our goal is that when we help those people work toward their President's Team pin, they will be able to see their dreams come true and we will receive the biggest payoff a Sponsor can receive, which is to witness their growth from the start. It’s like when parents see their kids grow up: They see them taking their first steps, graduating from school, and starting their careers. For us, to see those people reach President's Team will be one of the proudest moments of our lives.
That’s quite an achievement! Are there any other accomplishments that you’re proud of?
David: In the future, our kids will be the ones leading the trainings. I think our children will take this business to the next level. My son is 13 years old and he’s already reading Mark Hughes’ books. I know he has the potential to go far, but he needs the knowledge to learn how to become a good leader. Our organization is still very young; we don’t have a second generation yet, so everything that’s happening with social media – new technologies plus the creativity of young people – will take this business to higher levels.
What are your plans for the future of your business?
our children will take this business to the next level.
I think
David: Social media is the tool we use the most. On social media, we create events with Nutrition Club experts once a month, one in Spanish and one in English. Since we started with it last year, 31 Clubs have been opened. This month, there will be 17 more Clubs opening. Approximately three or four new Clubs seem to emerge from each of those social media events.
What tools have you relied on to grow your business?
David: The best advice we’ve received was from our mentor, Rubén Rodríguez. He told us, “Never miss a training, never separate from a system that works and always go back to basics. When you feel lost, remember you can always go back to the start and never let your ego fool you.” It still think it’s great advice.
What’s the best advice you’ve received so far?
Laura: My purpose is to help other people achieve their goals. I don’t want to only support this generation, I want to support the next generation as well. Our mission is that every Distributor in our downline reaches President's Team. We know that reaching President's Team isn't typical, but we think the highest goals are the ones worth pursuing. David: For me, every day is an opportunity to help someone. I will always tell people what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear. So, my mission is not only focused on supporting my family but also supporting others. Everybody who comes to us must leave a better person than when they arrived.
Can you share your purpose and your mission?
